| Hosting Providers |
|
I’m with a software company that has a couple different things going on simultaneously: we’re rapidly moving the product from a customer-installed model to a SAAS model. We’re also moving from an internally run data center to a hosted data center. Prefer to find a hosting services provider that can support both needs in one place. Different requiremen ts and SLAs for the two different needs, of course, but one vendor better than two. Any suggestions on hosting providers? Much appreciated. I’ll summarize the responses and send back on request or to the group.

Robert,
My company has been using http://serveraxis.com/ where we have a virtual private server. I’ve had no complaints.
I’m really excited about the potential of cloud computing. I am currently working on a blog entry about my experience
with Amazon E2 (elastic compute cloud) that should ready by the end of the week art http://byteworksinc.blogspot.com/.

Robert,
In my previous position, I used Datapipe as the hosting provider for a fairly large scale SaaS solution. I worked with them for about 3-4
years and found them to be reliable and flexible vendor. I haven’t used them for data center purposes, but you can check them/their references
about it.
As part of a recent consulting engagement I evaluated several hosting vendors for a SaaS hosting solution (but much smaller) and found InetU
to be a promising vendor though I don’t have operations experience with them - worth to check.
Regards,
Ori S.

Robert,
Hosted Solutions (http://www.hostedsolutions.com) has five SAS 70 Type II certified data centers offering both data center management and managed services. Josh Wolff () is the General Manager of their facilities in Charlotte NC and also serves as the President of the Carolina SaaS User Group. Hosted Solutions has an impressive client list that includes independent SaaS companies and Fortune 500 companies that host their SaaS offerings at Hosted Solutions. I have known Josh for years and he is a great source of expertise on SaaS, Colocation, and Managed Services.

Hi Robert,
In the past I used to work for Sungard and at that time, they were quite impressive in that matter.
Kind Regards.

Robert,
I have started up several SaaS operations, have been in both Hosted (EDS) and Software Apps (Oracle, Business Engine) and have some advice for you prior to starting the vendor search. I am helping a client move from internal SaaS to Hosted now.
If you are interested in some of the pitfalls to avoid contact me at

Robert,
At QuickArrow, we use SunGard for our hosting services and they have been a very solid partner for us. They have offerings that range from hosting a small dev environment to a full SaaS solution like ours. If you have questions and would like to talk about them, or our experience with them over the years, please feel free to give me a call.
All the best,
Kevin

I’ve had experience working with operations for SaaS ISVs that used either Navisite, Peer1 or iNetU. Platforms were
either Solaris or Red Hat Enterprise Linux, with virtualization, and Oracle and/or PostgreSQL and/or MySQL,
Websphere, WebLogic, Webmethods, Mule, Java, PHP, Business Objects, YUI/Ext and/or Dojo.
Neither were perfect, but both delivered on some very complex situations.
