What are three things most people don't know about you?

1. Most of the meals I eat at home, I share with our parrot, Yafie. He sits on my arm and eats whatever I’m eating.
2. My wife and I hosted a birthday party for our dog’s (Buddy) first birthday, invited about 15 other dogs, had decorations, games, treat bags and even a cake.
3. I recently went hiking in the snow with shorts on and got sunburned.

What's been your greatest adventure in life?

When I was in grad schoold I bicycled most of the way across the U.S., from Oregon to Missouri.

What's your best childhood memory?

When I was 10 years old, my father and I went to see the Harlem Globetrotters. As 1 of 4 children, it was rare for he and I to spend time together, just the two of us.

If you could have a conversation with a person of your choice, past, present or future, who would that person be and why?

I’m not sure, but I am fascinated by people who make dramatic changes to their occupations and lifestyles.

What's the hardest thing you've ever done in your life?

Watch my grandparents die from various illnesses.

Tell us about your favorite hobby.

My wife and I hike the beauty of Colorado as often as possible (part of the reason we moved here in 2006).

What are you currently reading? What is your favorite book?

Anything by John Nance. (he writes adventure fiction based around airplanes)

Is there a particular place or thing you want to see?

Antarctica

If you could give $10,000 to a charity, what would that charity be and why?

I’d split it between a food bank and an animal shelter.

If you weren't on the professional services career track, what would you be doing?

I’m not sure really, although having spent this past winter as my first in Colorado, I keep thinking a career in snow plowing would be both lucrative and rewarding. (I’d help a lot of people.)

What is the path that led you to Professional Services/Consulting?

When I was in business school, I realized that I wanted to build things and that technology comes naturally to me, so I started my Professional Services career as a hands-on technology consultant.

What advice would you give to a recent graduate who just took a job in professional services?

Two things, make sure the lifestyle is for you, and make sure you actively manage your career.

Initial Requirement/Validation/Proposal Fee

My team supports a slice of the company’s products. The emphasis is on data, less on technology, Thomson Reuters is a data vendor. To
date we have been the functional experts supporting the pre-sale and do the implementation (ranges from relatively easy set-ups to quite
complex, where we write some of the code for customer); there is also a on-going maintenance piece outside of break-fix.

Never charged for services, now moving into consultative space. We have an opportunity to solve a specific customer problem with our
content. We are at the stage where we are about to visit the site for the customer to lay out their objectives and requirement. We
will then owe them analysis, outline of solution, which product can deliver the data, and timelines.

What is the range of fees for this type of engagement that you have charged or seen in industry? Understood that should this turn into a
sale, this initial fee will be deducted from the outright sale or the recurring subscription fee.

Thank you,

Tom R.
