All services executives and professionals are challenged with how they should track and measure utilization.  Utilization is a pertinent issue to all services organization, whether it is a consulting firm, software vendor, or other project based organization. 

At Gomez, we measure there “utlization” numbers for our consultants:

1. Non-Billable time
2. Billable Time (Utilization, based on 2080 hours/consultant)
3. Chargeable time (non-billable projects for customers or internal projects)

Billable + Chargeable is what we call “realization.” Chargeable time
protects the consultant when they are asked to work on a key, non-billable
project. Non-billable is time off, admin, sales support, etc.
